Por eso, nos pareci\u00f3 un buen momento para hablar sobre la historia del cobro de tarifas en el metro de Nueva York. \u00bfCu\u00e1nto costaba viajar en metro cuando se inaugur\u00f3 en 1904? \u00bfCu\u00e1ndo se produjo la primera subida de tarifas en la historia del metro de Nueva York? \u00bfCu\u00e1l fue el mayor aumento de tarifas en la historia de la ciudad de Nueva York? \u00a1Exploremos!<\/p>\n<h2>\u00bfCu\u00e1nto cost\u00f3 el metro de Nueva York cuando se inaugur\u00f3 por primera vez?<\/h2>\n<p>El metro de Nueva York se inaugur\u00f3 en 1904. Cuando abri\u00f3 sus puertas, el viaje costaba solo 5 centavos. Se compraba un billete de papel por 5 centavos, se lo entregaba a un agente de la puerta, quien lo introduc\u00eda en una m\u00e1quina llamada \u00abchopper\u00bb y luego se atravesaba un torniquete gigante para subir al tren. \u00a1Esta tarifa de metro se mantuvo en 5 centavos durante 44 a\u00f1os!<\/p>\n<h2>\u00bfCu\u00e1ndo se produjo el primer aumento en las tarifas del metro?<\/h2>\n<p>1948 fue el primer a\u00f1o en la ciudad de Nueva York que enfrent\u00f3 la ira de los pasajeros enojados que protestaban por el aumento de la tarifa del metro. El primer aumento de la tarifa del metro fue el 1 de julio de 1948. La tarifa se duplic\u00f3 a diez centavos. Si bien duplicar la tarifa puede parecer dr\u00e1stico, es importante recordar que \u00a1no hab\u00eda habido un aumento de tarifa en 44 a\u00f1os! La tarifa se mantuvo en diez centavos hasta el 25 de julio de 1953. M\u00e1s de cinco a\u00f1os sin un aumento de tarifa no est\u00e1 tan mal.<\/p>\n<h2>El problema de los quince centavos<\/h2>\n<p>En 1953, la tarifa del metro se elev\u00f3 a quince centavos. Esto represent\u00f3 un aumento de \u2153. Si bien sin duda los pasajeros de Nueva York no estaban contentos con el aumento de la tarifa, hab\u00eda un problema mayor. Estados Unidos no ten\u00eda una moneda de quince centavos. Desde la creaci\u00f3n del metro de Nueva York, los pasajeros pod\u00edan pasar r\u00e1pidamente con una moneda, pero ahora necesitaban dos, lo que causaba algunos atascos de tr\u00e1fico. Esto cre\u00f3 la necesidad de la ficha del metro. Se introdujo la ficha Y peque\u00f1a, \u00a1y finalmente se acu\u00f1\u00f3 48 millones! Esta funcionar\u00eda para la tarifa de 15 centavos, y luego para la de 20 centavos, introducida en 1966. En 1970, cuando la tarifa del metro aument\u00f3 a 30 centavos, se introdujo una ficha Y \u00abgrande\u00bb con una acu\u00f1aci\u00f3n de 50 millones.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00bfCu\u00e1ndo aument\u00f3 la tarifa del metro de Nueva York a un d\u00f3lar?<\/h2>\n<p>Poco a poco, durante los siguientes diecis\u00e9is a\u00f1os, las tarifas del metro aumentaron gradualmente de 30 centavos en 1970 a 1 d\u00f3lar en 1986. Se introdujo en 1994. Su objetivo era reducir la carga de tener que llevar una tonelada de fichas. La tarjeta amarilla y azul se ha convertido en un s\u00edmbolo ic\u00f3nico de la ciudad. Fue inventada por Raymond Dekozan, ingeniero el\u00e9ctrico nacido en Virginia. Su primer trabajo fue ayudar a crear tecnolog\u00eda para la carrera espacial entre Rusia y Estados Unidos. No hubo aumentos de tarifa entre 2015 y 2023. Quiz\u00e1s por eso el aumento a $3 parece tan r\u00e1pido. En 2023, subi\u00f3 a $2.90 o $3.25 por un pasaje sencillo, y aumentar\u00e1 a un salario base de $3 en 2026.<\/p>\n<p>En perspectiva, el metro sigue siendo una ganga en comparaci\u00f3n con tener un auto, pagar el seguro y la gasolina.
