What to Know About Seeing a Mets Game at CitiField

New York City has two Major League baseball teams. The New York Yankees play at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. The New York Mets play at CitiField in Queens. Both teams are fun to cheer for, and as you can imagine, have built up quite a rivalry with one another. “Are you a Yankees or a Mets fan?” might be one of the most divisive questions you can ask as a New Yorker. Just don’t visit NYC wearing a Boston Red Sox hat. (Actually, NYC has a LARGE contingent of the Red Sox Nation!) However, this blog will focus on what you need to know about watching The Mets at CitiField

How to Get to CitField

Looking at a map, CitiField might look hard to get to, but the truth is that the stadium is quite accessible using public transportation or rideshares. There is also a giant parking lot at CitiField if you wish to drive.

How to get to CitiField using public transportation. Using the subway, you’ll want to hop on the 7 line and head East to Mets-Willets point. The MTA provides extra trains after most games to help Mets fans on their commute. Many locals will opt for the Long Island Railroad (also known as the LIRR) to get to CitiField. The LIRR conveniently runs from Penn Station to Mets-Willets Point Station, just a short walk from the stadium. This year there is a new exciting option for public transit to CitiField. You can take the Seastreak ferry on weekends to CitiField. It will drop you off a ten minute walk from CitField. Note, the Seastreak makes stops in Staten Island and New Jersey, but not Manhattan.

Can you take Uber to CitiField? Yes you can take Ubers, Lyfts, and other rideshares from CitiField. Dropping off everything seems very orderly, but the pick-up can be quite chaotic. Expect to have to wait while your RideShare sits in traffic, and maybe have your driver switched out several times. Be patient and you will eventually succeed.

What To Eat at a Mets Game

CitiField is famous for its food. In fact, CitiField and The Mets have been voted best food in Major League Baseball multiple years in a row. They have worked hard to offer a huge variety of food for every taste and dietary restriction. Yes, there are gluten-free options, vegan options, and more at CitiField. There are some CitiField staples such as their Goya Nachos Grande served in a giant Mets helmet. Yes the helmet might be a gimmick, but these nachos are tasty! Prince Street Pizza is often regarded as the best pizza in NYC, and they serve it up at CitiField. Naz’s Halal is this author’s favorite pick and orders their combo platter. Wok n Roll serves up delicious egg rolls, including dessert cinnamon bun egg rolls that will make your taste buds dance. Pig Beach served Dole Whips in a small plastic Mets cap and its soooooo delicious.

Besides Baseball, What Is There To Do At a Mets Game?

Obviously the main draw of seeing a Mets game is baseball. The Mets have several star players, including Juan Soto, who signed a $765 million, 15-year contract with the Mets, the largest contract in professional sports history.

While you may come for the baseball, you’ll stay for the entertainment. Every time the Mets hit a homerun, a giant apple emerges from the sidelines and lights off fireworks. Before the game there is entertainment such as DJ’s, FanFest, a kids booth, and a dance team! If you’re lucky, Mr. and Mrs Met will make an appearance and help rile the fans up. It’s a big baseball party! Check the Mets calendar for special events. They have fireworks nights, dog-friendly games, and more. Baseball fans will also love the Mets Hall of Fame Museum.
