The iconic plaza of New York’s Lincoln Center will be transformed this summer 2022 into the “largest outdoor dance floor” in the city, “The Oasis on Josie Robertson Plaza” will run from June 1 to August 14. The first thing on the agenda is a free concert by salsero Eddie Palmie.
A 1,300-pound, 10-foot-diameter disco ball is part of the change at New York’s famed Lincoln Center plaza, which this summer will be transformed into the city’s largest outdoor dance floor yet.
“Growing out of the center of the concrete jungle like a fantastical mirage is ‘The Oasis,’ the largest outdoor dance floor in all of New York City with a 10-foot disco ball and the central gathering place of ‘Summer for the City,’” Lincoln Center announced in a statement.
The production features the talents of Clint Ramos, Tony Award-winning set and costume designer from the Philippines; and lighting by Andrew Grant. The installation of this wall art on the blue mirrored stage transforms ‘Josie Robertson Plaza’ and invites New Yorkers and tourists to come together again amidst a sea of mirrors, reflecting the countless participants.
Offering a soul-filling respite, ‘The Oasis’ invites all visitors to dance, meet and reconnect during daily operating hours and for select free events for all ages.
The facility features this summer’s ‘Social Dance’ series, including swing, Afrobeats, house, salsa, hip hop, disco and more; as well as concerts by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra Young Players, Saturday morning creative workshops for kids, teens and families, adaptive dance classes, accessible silent discos, poetry readings and a public wedding celebration for hundreds of New Yorkers on June 10. July. Registration looks like that peculiar event will open on June 12.
Whether you find yourself dancing, eating, snacking, chatting or relaxing, we hope the rejuvenating summer air and cool glow of the fountain inspire you to enjoy the moment shared with friends old and new.
Also in Central Park this summer there will be an open-air nightclub, in the traditional winter skating rink “Wollman Rink”.
