Park Slope – All You Need to Know
Park Slope – All You Need to Know
For anyone planning a visit to New York this fall, Brooklyn is an excellent alternative to bustling Manhattan for many reasons: In addition to the fact that accommodation prices are considerably cheaper, anyone who is spending a stay in this place will really, you can feel like a real New Yorker in the city instead of just a tourist. Additionally, Brooklyn neighborhoods are often much greener, quieter, and more pleasant. Park Slope is one of the neighborhoods in Brooklyn that has all these characteristics.
Park Slope is a residential neighborhood located northwest of Brooklyn. The Park Slope area is generally considered to be bordered by Prospect Avenue to the south, 4th Avenue to the west, Flatbush Avenue to the north, and Prospect Park to the east.
In 2012, New York Magazine named it the #1 neighborhood in New York and the reasons are several: The neighborhood is surrounded by its charming tree-lined streets, brownstones, shopping streets, elegant restaurants and bars.In addition, it has well-known schools and great access to public transportation. The neighborhood is also close to some of Brooklyn’s best attractions, such as the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, and the Brooklyn Public Library.
Before becoming one of the most popular neighborhoods in the borough of Brooklyn, Park Slope was Dutch farmland for many. The story goes that, at the end of the 19th century, the development of Prospect Park and the advance of urban expansion made many Manhattanites want to live in this area and that is what really happened.
Those who reside in this special neighborhood describe it as its own small town within the city.
Today Park Slope is populated by young, modern families, as well as a diverse collection of artists and creative people who frequent the countless cultural centers and historic sites. At the same time, it is also home to many second-hand stores (with spectacular finds at low prices), cozy bookstores, performance venues and puppet shows, and recreational activities for children. You can also find retirees who enjoy the charm of the area and who are lucky enough not to have sold their homes in the past.
Below, different activities that make this neighborhood a recommendable and surprising place and that without a doubt must be included in the tour:

It is common to say that this park is the equivalent of Brooklyn’s Central Park; in fact, this enormous public park was designed by the same pair of architects and landscapers as the Manhattan Park: Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux.
THE OLD STONE HOUSE
This is a replica of a historic Dutch stone house with a rich backstory that extends all the way to the American Revolution. Currently, the Old Stone House can be visited as a museum to see an exhibition about the battle and participate in different events, concerts and readings that take place there.
