Ice skating in New York
Ice skating in New York
Ice skating began as a recreational activity in the Netherlands in the 15th century. Many years later and in New York City, it is one of the most traditional and preferred winter activities by residents and tourists.
Every year, crowds flock to the freezing esplanade of Central Park’s Wollman Track. From very talented athletes to little ones trying to keep their balance, everyone is looking to display figure eights and pirouettes or simply be able to move without falling and of course children depend.
The Wollman Skating Rink or better known as Central Park, first welcomed to skaters in the 1950s, intended as a safer option to the unpredictability of skating on the lake, a celebrated tradition since the park opened to the public. public in 1858.
After inheriting a fortune, Kate Wollman, a philanthropist, and resident of the Waldorf Astoria, financed the track’s construction. Through this great idea, he hoped that it would “bring happiness to the children who use it.” Wollman was very famous as she used to sit alone on a terrace overlooking the rink, watching the skaters glide. It was she who personally presented prizes for the annual children’s competitions.
The track is open from October 24 to March 15, 2023.
Schedules. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. / 10:00 p.m., depending on the day of the week.
Prices change based on time of day and date, and depending on the season, but range from $10 to $35
The cheapest is to go early in the day (from 9:00 to 10:00 in the morning) and at the last minute (from 11:00 to midnight).
The best thing about this track is that you can take private skating classes, as well as skate freely. Also, skates can be rented for $11.
If after skating for a while you start to feel very cold, you can visit the Wollman Café, the cafeteria at the Central Park skating rink, to have a delicious coffee or hot chocolate.
Although Wollman is the most prominent public rink in the city, there are dozens of places to skate in New York, and the truth is that skating has become a citywide phenomenon and has been for a long time.
Next, we will mention another of the two most recommended tracks to visit while visiting New York City:

Famous for its 80-year history and the Christmas tree that has made it world famous. The rink is open from November 5 to March or April 2023.

Rockefeller skating rink prices change depending on the time of day and date, depending on whether it is more or less high season. But they range from $21 to $6 plus $11 skate rental.

Some advice: Keep in mind that it is one of the busiest slopes, so the recommendation is to buy the ticket in advance on the web, choosing the day and time.
The favorite time of the day to skate at Rockefeller Center is first thing in the morning: the rink is very quiet and there are hardly any people around, plus admission is cheaper.
There are free lockers where you can leave your shoes and backpack.
Bryant Park
Another of the mythical ice rinks in New York is that of Bryant Park. It is located there and is called Bank of America Winter Village because it faces the Bank of America tower building.
At Bryant Park’s skating rink, The Rink at Bryant Park, you can slide on the ice with views of the Empire State Building. It is located in the center of the park, on the grass area, and is surrounded by the stalls of the Christmas market from Bryant Park.
