Sneak Peek at the 2025-2026 Broadway Season
The 2025 Tony Awards are in the books. Nicole Scherzinger dazzled in red, Audra McDonald, as per usual, brought the house down, Cole Escola stole the red carpet in a dazzling blue down, and Natalie Venetia Belcon of Buena Vista Social Club arguably gave the best speech of the night. As the curtain closed at Radio City Music Hall, the question on everyone’s lips was, what will the 2025-2026 Tony Season have in store?
Fortunately, we here at Welcome to Times Square have close ties to the New York City theatre community. In fact, one of the best ways to advertise your New York City show is to advertise on the Welcome to Times Square billboard. Learn how your show can be featured for as low as $250 a day!
In the meantime, let’s have a sneak peek at the 2025-2026 Broadway season.
Queen of Versailles
Did you know that the composer of Wicked has a new musical coming out? Arguably the greatest living musical theatre composer today, Stephen Schwartz’s musical The Queen of Versailles is finally coming to Broadway. It will star Broadway’s loving legend Kristin Chenoweth, who originated the role of Galinda in Wicked. In The Queen of Versailles, Chenoweth will portray Jackie Siegel, and her amazing journey from computer engineer to Mrs. Florida to billionairess. A true Icarus story, we will also see what happens when she and her husband fly too close to the sun. When will The Queen of Versailles open? The Queen of Versailles opens October 8 at the Palace Theatre.
Ragtime
Ragtime is perhaps the most highly anticipated revival of a musical of the 2025-2026 season. This will be the third time Broadway has seen a production of Ragtime, and it couldn’t be more timely. The 2025 production has an all-star cast including Cassie Levy who originated the role of Elsa in Broadway’s Frozen. Ragtime is scheduled to begin performances at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre September 26 with an opening October 16th.
Chess
Anyone a fan of Lea Michele? How about Aaron Tveit? These two powerhouse stars will be joining forces with Nicholas Christopher in a revival of Chess, which is an emotional and epic look at the Cold War through the eyes of chess champions. There is no opening night date yet, but the publicity photos are powerful and have everyone talking.
The Lost Boys
Another of theatre’s living legends is Michael Arden, who has won the Best Director Tony twice. He will be directing The Lost Boys, aiming to open in the Spring of 2026 at the Palace Theatre. (Which leads us to ask…Will The Queen of Versailles be a limited run?)
Punch
The Manhattan Theatre (MTC) is quickly becoming the launching pad for modern theatre classics. Punch will be sure to follow suit. It tells the story of how one single punch can change the course of many lives. It aims to open this fall.
Art
James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris return to Broadway in the revival of Art by Tasmina Reza. Art took the theatre world by storm when it opened in 1998 and asked “What is art?” and “What makes art meaningful?” Opening night of Art will be September 16th, 2025 at the Music Box Theatre.
Mamma Mia
Perhaps the musical the world needs the most right now is Mamma Mia. It is pure fun and fluff, the one of very first modern jukebox musical megahits, created from the music catalog of Sweden’s most famous music act: ABBA. Audiences will be dancing in their seats to Dancing Queen, Money, Money, Money, and Take a Chance on Me, and sobbing their eyes out at The Winner Takes It All. Mamma Mia became an international sensation the first time around, so get your tickets early. Oh, and it’s returning to its original Broadway Theatre, The Winter Garden, on August 2nd.
