Times Square New Year’s Eve Events
Did you know that the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebrations begin in early December?
The Times Square Alliance has a month full of exciting New Year’s Events to help revellers get into the mood!
Here are the highlights of events happening in Times Square this December!
TIMES SQUARE NEW YEAR’S EVE WISHING WALL
Each New Year’s Eve, over 3000 pounds of confetti descend upon Times Square. Each handful of Times Square New Year’s confetti is tossed by hand from the windows of skyscrapers surrounding the celebrations. The Times Square New Year’s confetti is biodegradable, to minimize its footprint on the environment, while still ringing in the new year with fluttering glee.
You can even be a part of the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration with the Times Square New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall.
This wall allows the public to take pieces of New Year’s Eve confetti and write wishes for the New Year upon them. If you will be outside of NYC for New Year’s, no worry, you can submit a wish online as well, and it will be filled added for you. Visit the Times Square New Year’s Eve Wishing Wall website here to do so. https://www.timessquarenyc.org/events/nye-wishing-wall
All of this confetti, with all of your most special wishes, will be added to the 3,000 pounds of confetti dropped on New Year’s Eve in Times Square! Many revelers and wishers have reported that these confetti wishes have a high likelihood of coming true!
You have until 8pm December 29th to submit your wish. The wall can be found in Times Square between 46th and 47th streets, and has a great view of the Welcome to Times Square Billboard.
TIMES SQUARE GOOD RIDDANCE DAY
There’s an unofficial holiday in NYC called Good Riddance Day. This year, Good Riddance Day in Times Square will take place December 28th, at noon.
Times Square’s Good Riddance Day is a take off of a Latin American tradition where unwanted memories are set on fire! While past Times Square Good Riddance Day’s have included a magician writing bad memories on paper and lighting them on fire, a less combustible practice will be put into place in 2024. The public will write unwanted and bad memories on chalk boards and then erase them, making way for good and happy memories in 2025!
TIMES SQUARE CONFETTI TEST
Dropping 3,000 pounds of confetti upon Times Square is no easy feat, so naturally, the confetti throwers need to practice! The 2024 Times Square New Year’s Eve Confetti Test will take place December 29th, at 11 a.m.
This family friendly event will let the public dance and celebrate in the biodegradable New Year’s Eve confetti as it’s tossed from the center of Times Square! This is a seriously fun event, some of the crowd even makes “snow angels” in the confetti. Planet Fitness representatives will also be there to pump up the crowd!
NEW YEAR’S EVE BALL TEST
The New Year’s Eve ball test is a local secret, and not technically open to the public. Those in the know, however, know how to watch it!
December 30th, starting at 11am, Times Square officials will be testing the New Year’s Eve Ball’s journey up and down its pole, atop One Times Square. Throughout the day you can watch the ball shimmy, and get a preview of Times Square New Year’s Eve event before the big day!
