There is an argument amongst New Yorkers about whether it’s better to start your Brooklyn Bridge walk in Brooklyn and walk to Manhattan, or start in Manhattan and walk to Brooklyn.
If you want to experience Brooklyn, you should walk from Manhattan into Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Bridge ends (or begins) in an area of Brooklyn known as DUMBO. (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.) DUMBO is currently one of the trendiest neighborhoods in NYC’s five boroughs. DUMBO is full of unique shops, delicious restaurants, and fantastic panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline.
We recommend you walk the Brooklyn Bridge, eat pizza at Julianna’s or Grimaldi’s pizza, shop at the TimeOut Market, take photos of the Manhattan skyline, take a ride on Jane’s Carousel, and then subway back to Manhattan.
If you want to enjoy gorgeous views of Manhattan while you walk the Brooklyn Bridge, take the subway to HIGH STREET on the A train, and then cross the bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan. This way you’ll enjoy the iconic Manhattan skyline throughout your entire walk!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WALK THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE?
You should allow one full hour to walk the Brooklyn Bridge.
You can technically cross the bridge in 20 minutes (or however long it takes you to walk 1 mile), but you will probably want to stop and see the sights, take photos, and maybe even look at the bronze plates illustrating the amazing history of the Brooklyn Bridge.
While there may be vendors on the bridge, we recommend saving your pennies for shopping in DUMBO in Brooklyn or Chinatown in Manhattan.
WHAT CAN YOU SEE FROM THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE?
You can see many famous NYC landmarks from the Brooklyn Bridge. The Chrysler Building, 40 Wall Street, and Empire State Building each held the title of “tallest building in the world” at some point in time. All three can be seen from the Brooklyn Bridge. You’ll also see One World Trade Center, Thurgood Marshall Courthouse, and the Statue of Liberty herself!
If you want to fully understand the history of the Brooklyn Bridge and the NYC landmarks around it, we recommend taking a tour from one of NYC’s prestigious tour companies.
WHAT BODY OF WATER DOES THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE CROSS?
The Brooklyn Bridge crosses the East River. The East River separates Manhattan from Brooklyn. It is so wide that until 1883, when the Brooklyn Bridge was completed, many believed it was impossible to build a bridge long enough. The Brooklyn Bridge measures about a mile in length.
Remember when you cross the Brooklyn Bridge, take tons of photos! If one of your photos is especially beautiful, put it on our giant Times Square billboard and show it off to the world!
Your photo will show in NYC’s Times Square every hour for 24 hours! Visit our website to learn more!
